Guidelines for Nursery

Thank you for volunteering in the Grace Central Church Nursery! All of GCC has been blessed by the nursery volunteers! The following guidelines were made to help serve our volunteers and church.

Before Volunteering

  1. Each volunteer above the age of 18 is required to have completed a background check through Grace Central Church. Please see the current Office Administrator if you have not been asked to complete this check.

  2. Each volunteer is also required to have completed Darkness to Light Training. This is a 2-3 hour training that educates our members on how to prevent, recognize, and respond to child abuse. Please reach out to the Office Administrator to receive information on how to complete the training if you have not yet completed it.

  3. Children ages 11 and up are invited to serve as youth volunteers in the nursery. If you are interested in being added to the volunteer roster, please contact the Office Administrator.

  4. A. If you are unwell or cannot attend on the day of your nursery service, please contact the Children’s Director to arrange a substitute.
    B. If you know in advance that you are unable to serve during your assigned shift, you are welcome to reach out to another volunteer to exchange shifts. Adults can only switch with adults, but youth volunteers can be replaced by other youth volunteers or adults. Please contact the Office Administrator if a switch is made so the master schedule can be adjusted accordingly.

  5. Nursery volunteers are asked to be present in the nursery by 10:15 am or 15 minutes before the service begins.

While Volunteering

  1. Nursery is open to children ages 6 months to 3 years.

  2. A minimum of two adults, or one adult and two youth volunteers, should

always be in the room during the church service.

  3. Diaper changes and other bathroom needs are to be provided by parents or

guardians only. If a child needs assistance, you may contact the parents via

    text or through the app.

  4. Families of children displaying obvious signs of illness should be politely

asked to remove their child from the nursery until symptom-free.

  5. Check-in is now 100% through the Planning Center app. If you have issues

with the app or printing name tags, please see the Children’s Director.

Currently, children can be checked out verbally by a parent or guardian.

  6. The maximum ratio of adults to children is 1 to 6. If this ratio is exceeded,

please see the Children’s Director who will assist in providing extra volunteers.

  1. Snacks are provided for the children but don’t have to be given out. We will leave this to the discretion of the volunteers.

  2. At the end of the service, volunteers are asked to please tidy up the nursery, empty the trash, and wash any necessary items.

  3. A. If there are any concerns about safety, any incidents, or any volunteer needs, please reach out to the Children’s Director for support.
    B. If there are any issues concerning scheduling, please reach out to the Office Administrator.
